CALLING ALL SPOT FIGHTING SKINCARE EXPERTS

Hey Internet Friends,

I need your help. Big time. Im having a bit of a skincare crisis, in other words my face hates me!
Ive never had the best skin but I’ve never had spots like this before! Im 23 so its not like I’m a teenager and this should be expected.

I have my own little things and products that I use for breakouts but I really need your top tips on how to reduce blemishes, breakouts and what products you use to hide them?

Please leave me some suggestions in the comments.

Your makeup can be reacting to your skin. If you started using a product you never used before that can definitely be irritating your skin. This happened to me recently, and my face had all bumps on it underneath the skin. I stopped wearing makeup for a while, exfoliated like crazy, and put a good moisturizer on for the night time. A good face scrub I use is St Ives Apricot scrub, and I exfoliate everyday. My skin has been good ever since, and I now wear makeup like twice a week because your skin needs to breathe.

I’d recommend Guerlain Abeille Royale which is dark spots corrector, pore minimizer. It’s very soft, light and you won’t feel anything uncomfortable on your face. I’m not sure if it fits for big problems, because I’ve used it only for a few dark spots on the nose and it worked good, it removed spots and made my skin on the nose more soft. Also, skin in general became more shiny.

Sometimes it can be hormonal. I actually take medication to keep my skin clear. When I had issues I consulted a Dermatologist and I found that being on the BC pill and taking a medication called Spironolactone suppresses the hormone and has been a great med combo for me. One time a doctor changed the type of BC pill I was on and I hadn’t taken my Spiranolactone and my face broke out worse than ever before. So all I can say is consult a Dermatologist maybe. πŸ™‚

I agree with the comments about letting your skin breathe, but I do like to wear makeup especially when I’m working (which is a lot of the time!) I used to be really lazy when it came to taking off my makeup and just skin care in general. I saw a huge difference when I started to be more diligent with it! I normally exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a basic scrub and use a simple facial cleanser after I take my makeup off at night and then again when I wake up in the morning (all drug store products!) and I use Pond’s Cold Cream to moisturize after I cleanse. I also recently got a Spin Brush that seems to be working really well! A lot of my skin problems are caused by stress and poor eating habits (I like french fries, what can I say!?), but I still have seen a huge difference since I started really making it a routine and being diligent. I also use charcoal or mud masks every so often, which may help as well! Sorry for such a long novel haha. Hope it helped a little!

    Products I use most–
Mask: Freeman- “Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask
Basic Face Wash: Neutrogena- Oil-Free Acne Wash
Spin Brush soap: Acne Free- “Oil Free Purifying Cleanser”
    Moisturizer: Pond’s- Cold Cream

Thank you so much for your really detailed comment!
I do most of these things already just not with the products you suggested. I think I’ll try some out.
I’ve heard good things about using charcoal like you mentioned so I will certainly stay on the look out for them!
Thanks so much for your comment πŸ™‚ xxx

Make sure you don’t introduce too many products at once because then you won’t know if one breaks you out! Have you tried a chemical exfoliant (BHA/AHA)? A BHA in particular is usually great to add in daily to reduce and prevent breakouts πŸ™‚

Hello! I’m so sorry you are struggling with this!!!! It’s a horrible feeling-I went through it myself, actually probably around the same age.
I read above all the comments and I do agree with a lot of them.
My biggest advice to you is to look at your DIET! Dairy can be a HUGE factor with skin issues. What is your diet like? My advice would be to start there. When I had this issue I read the book: Feed Your Face By Jessica Wu, MD.
Also what kind of skincare do you use and are you making sure to wash off ALL of your makeup? Sometimes people use too many products to try and dry out the acne so in turn your skin produces too much oil and it just perpetuates the problem.
Also try TARTE cosmetics it is a natural brand with beautiful coverage. I use it and unlike many others doesn’t make me break out.
Sorry for the super long message it just breaks my heart when other people suffer the way I did and I want to try and help!!! Best of luck and come back with any questions!

I have tried all kinda of products and some of my favorite things I’ve found for reducing blemish on the spot contain sulfur. There’s a drugstore product called bye bye blemish (it’s a spot treatment) It makes blemishes about half the size over night! If you don’t have anything like that toothpaste is a good spot treatment! (The baking soda kind) Lemon juice reduces redness (after cleansing put lemon juice on your face for a minute or so, rinse it off. Baking soda is a great exfoliant and it calms skin and balances PH.

BEEN THERE! Benzyol Peroxide washes help. Tea tree has been great as an overall product. I also use Clindamicyn sometimes (topical pads, RX) which is fabulous for really stubborn acne. Retin A Micro is phenomenal…but with no generics, it’s a FORTUNE! Generic Retin A (Tretinoin) can be almost as great, and helps with other signs of aging as well (I’m 37 and people ask if I’m 25! So starting early can’t hurt!!)

I also use Garnier BB for acne because it has 2% Salicylic Acid (exfoliator) – sheer, but love that it has an anti-blemish ingredient! Hard to find in foundations.

The new 24 hour spot conceal from Smashbox has been a godsend – it REALLY stays on.
